Dulci-More Festival 14

Memorial Day Weekend

Friday-Sunday, May 23-25, 2008

BSA Camp McKinley

37748 Furnace Road, Lisbon, Ohio 44432

All information is now current for Dulci-More Festival 14

Note that a couple of workshop locations have just been changed on May 17, 2008 (providing that we purchase some tarps during the next week) from previous years to help people who have problems walking or carrying instruments for distances (but it is still an outdoor festival with some distance and terrain features between workshop areas).

Also note that we have just learned that the reddish-orange bridge on Furnace Road at the corner of St. Jacobs Logtown Road has been reduced from a 10 ton limit to a 3 ton limit. Those with large campers may want to consider coming onto Furnace Road from State Route 172. Please see maps below if you need to understand more about these directions.

Program subject to change if needed.

Concert, Mini-Concert, & Workshop Presenters

This information about the artists is available with pictures of the artists at this link.

Karla Armstrong

In 1996, Karla Armstrong found her first autoharp in the passenger seat of the family car, a surprise gift from her husband, Mark. Since then, that “wondrous wad of wood and wire” has taken her to some unexpected places – like the winner’s circle in autoharp championships, to England presenting workshops and concerts, to Nashville for a special recording project, and to places of special blessing, like the bedside of the dying, sharing songs with kids around the campfire, and visiting the elderly.

Karla is not a “paper-trained” musician, but plays by ear. That first autoharp kindled a mysterious attraction to and ability for unusual stringed instruments! In addition to chromatic and diatonic autoharp, Karla also plays the bowed psaltery, the hammered dulcimer, the mountain dulcimer, its hybrid cousin, the banjimer, the lever harp, and most recently, the fiddle. She has made a Gospel recording featuring some of these instruments entitled, Resonance: Songs for the Soul and most recently, a Bluegrass Gospel vocal recording entitled, Karla & Sons: Let Me Tell You About Jesus.

Karla offers lessons, workshops, and Gospel Jams in her home, as well as at various music festivals around the country. She is also a ladies’ devotional speaker, bringing spiritual encouragement through message and music. For the past six years, she has co-authored Colorfully Chromatic, a column featuring challenging autoharp arrangements in the Autoharp Quarterly. She was the Mountain Laurel Autoharp Champion in 2000, runner up in 2005, as well as runner up for the International Autoharp Championship in 2000.

Originally from Baltimore, Karla holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Russian Language and Literature from George Washington University. However, her main occupation these days is homemaking and homeschooling her two sons, Aaron (age 18 and gone to college since this was originally written) and Benjamin (age 12). Family and music are important to her, but her greatest passion is the Lord Jesus Christ. She is an active member of Hope Baptist Church in Hanover, PA, where she is involved in various ministries. She and her family have made their home Pennsylvania since 1990.

Since Karla was unable to participate in Dulci-More Festival 13 as we had planned, we are pleased that she will be with us for the first time for Dulci-More Festival 14.

Randy Clepper

Multi-instrumentalist Randy Clepper is in demand as a player of Irish, Celtic, and other forms of traditional music (European, North and South American, Asian, etc.) on fingerstyle acoustic guitar, cittern/bouzouki, tenor banjo, and hammered dulcimer. Randy performs solo and with other local musicians around the central Ohio area. He performs regularly with Christine Fraser Ramsey (Scottish harp) as half of the duo Begley’s Braes, with the exciting and eclectic collaboration “Hammer On!”, and with various other musicians such as guitarist John Sherman, Butch Ross and Christie Burns, and others. Randy is an active player in the Columbus Irish music scene, and is a regular at traditional Irish music sessions around the area. He has performed in traditional music and arts festivals across the US. Randy’s background covers many styles of music including traditional, folk, pop, rock, jazz, funk (yes, funk) and bluegrass. He has taught DADGAD guitar and hammered dulcimer workshops at many festivals across the country, and is in demand as a recording sessions musician. He is a former member of the traditional Irish band Aisling (Charlene Adzima, Andi and Steve Wolfe, and Rick Nelson). Randy hails originally from southeast Tennessee, where he also taught guitar, did studio work, and played in several area bands.

In 2003, Randy teamed up with nationally known hammered dulcimer players Dan Landrum (TN, dulcimer player for Yanni), Mark Wade (OH, 1998 National Hammered Dulcimer Champion), and Bob McMurray (WA, dulcimer player/guitarist) to form the dulcimer super-group Hammer On!. The group released their first CD in 2004 entitled Hammer On!, an exciting and eclectic collection of mostly original music borrowing from styles as diverse as the backgrounds of its talented members. Click here to order the album, or go to www.hammeron.com for more info on the band (or better yet, come to Dulci-More Festival 14 and get a copy from Randy or Dan and get both to autograph it).

Randy has a solo CD which he recorded, engineered, and mastered entitled Within a Mile, containing mostly Irish/Celtic instrumental music on cittern, guitar, and hammered dulcimer (click here to order). Click here for a review of the CD from the Dulcimer Player’s News. Randy is also featured on Dan Landrum’s Winter Mix CD.

Randy is currently working on an exciting new recording project with John Sherman, Zac Leger, and others in the US and with Bert and Eva Deivert (and some surprise guests!!) in Sweden. Look for its release in 2007/early 2008.

Randy is from Gahanna, OH. This is his first Dulci-More Festival.

Bing Futch

Bing Futch has been playing Appalachian mountain dulcimer since 1985 and is one of the most high-profile performers of this uniquely American instrument today. In 1999, he founded Americana band MOHAVE (http://www.mohavemusic.com), a free-wheeling, good-timing collective of musicians that has performed at numerous festivals and county fairs, played to audiences at venues such as Hard Rock Live Orlando and the House Of Blues at Walt Disney World, and opened for national acts MOLLY HATCHET, SUBJECT TO CHANGE, WRONG and THE CRESTS, all while keeping the dulcimer front and center.

As a solo performer, Bing retains the high-energy performances and engaging audience interaction that infuses every MOHAVE show. His original songs are rooted within international folk music, mixing African and Native American rhythms, blues, bluegrass, funk, jazz, Dixieland, Celtic, country, middle eastern and latin influences with original rock and pop grooves.

Bing discovered the mountain dulcimer in 1985 while working in parking control at Knott's Berry Farm theme park in California. He quickly transferred to the Dulcimer Shop, which was owned by Bud and Donna Ford. Twenty years of experimenting, practicing, recording and performing went by before he finally got plugged into the dulcimer community. It was a phone call from reknowned dulcimer player and instructor Stephen Seifert that encouraged him to bring his unique stylings into the national dulcimer scene. Since then, Bing has emerged on the festival circuit as a one-of-a-kind performer and an innovative teacher of the instrument. He's also jammed and become friends with some of the top players and instructors in the world, including Seifert, Butch Ross, Jerry Rockwell and the inimitable Robert Force.

Bing has five beautiful, talented children and, along with his wife Jae, runs J.O.B. Entertainment Inc.(http://www.jobentertainment.com) The busy couple resides in Orlando, Florida with two cats, one snake and fourteen dulcimers - so close to Walt Disney World that you can see the nightly fireworks from their interstate exit. Bing was with us last year for Dulci-More Festival 13.

Jan Krist

Detroit born Jan Krist is a well established veteran of the acoustic music scene. Jan’s musical gifts have been recognized by Billboard Magazine, Entertainment Weekly Magazine, Dirty Linen, Image Journal, and others.

With 13 nominations and 4 Detroit Metro Music Awards under her belt, Krist has proven herself to be a Detroit area favorite. She can also claim the honor of being a finalist at the Kerrville song writing competition, in Kerrville TX, an annual event which helped to launch the careers of Lyle Lovett and Nancy Griffith. Krist takes her ordinary, plain Jane demeanor and all the elements we’ve learned to take for granted (6 strings and common time) and lets us know, this is not your ordinary woman with a guitar, even if it is.

When Planets Collide Krist’s newest release is a collision of musical styles and observations, both humorous and heartbreaking. It is the first of what we hope will be many on her self owned label, Outpost Records. It was recorded in Royal Oak, Michigan, at her home studio and produced by her and her husband, Alan Finkbeiner. The CD was engineered by Jim Kissling, Alan Finkbeiner, and Jan Krist. Planets is a superbly crafted recording with performances by some of Detroit’s best musicians and the writing of one of Detroit’s most critically acclaimed writers, Jan Krist.

Jan is currently working on a new solo acoustic CD. Part of this CD was recorded live at Trinity House Theatre in Livonia, MI. Watch for this CD to be released in Spring or Summer of 06. In addition to her solo work Jan is now working with Kitty Donohoe and Claudia Schmidt. Together they are “the Biddies”.

Jan is also performing with her writers group, “the Yellow Room Gang” whose website is at www.theyellowroomgang.com.

Jan currently lives in Fort Wayne, IN. This is her first time at Dulci-More Festival.

Dan Landrum

Dan Landrum's virtuosic hammer dulcimer playing has taken him from street performing in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to Olympic Ceremonies, U. S. Presidential Inaugurations, music festivals around the country and international stages. He’s been on the road since 2003 as a soloist with greek performer Yanni and is currently featured in the PBS Special Yanni Live: The Concert Event which was released in August 2006.

His energetic playing style, and unique approach to this ancient instrument are also evident in his six self-produced CDs which are available on iTunes and through www.danlandrum.com.

Dan and his wife, Angie, took over as editors and publishers of Dulcimer Players News (from Dulci-More Festival favorite, Madeline MacNeil) about two years ago. They have continued the tradition of the magazine while adding many new features like the CD that accompanies each month’s issue. If you are a dulcimer player (mountain or hammered) who does not already get this quarterly magazine, go to www.dpnews.com to get all the information.

Dan is also a member of Hammer On! with Mark Wade, Randy Clepper (see above) and Bob McMurray. He also performs with zitherjaZ. He performs regularly with the husband and wife team of Butch Ross (see below) and Christie Burns.

Check www.dpnews.com/cdf/ to find out about the Chattanooga Dulcimer Fest which will be on June 20-22, 2008 and is being presented by Dulcimer Players News and everythingdulcimer.com.

Dan and Angie are from Signal Mountain, TN. This is their first Dulci-More Festival.

Butch Ross

He's been called the "Bela Fleck of the mountain dulcimer" and "the new Richard Farina". Holding his Appalachian mountain dulcimer like a guitar and strung backwards, he's performed everything from Bach to the Beatles to Radiohead to Rogers and Hammerstein on it. Even when playing the Appalachian dulcimer in a traditional fashion, he is likely to employ two-handed tapping, body slaps, and other techniques pioneered by guitar innovators such as Eddie Van Halen and Michael Hedges. His 2005 CD The Moonshiner's Atlas features a scorching version of the Richard Thompson knuckle-buster 1952 Vincent Black Lightning.

But much like Richard Thompson, his deftness on the instrument often overshadows his prowess as a singer and songwriter. Long before he discovered the mountain dulcimer, Butch was already a prolific songwriter. His first CD, Selected Works of Friction, was praised for it's literary story-songs that were "hand-worn, affable and warm" (Philadelphia Weekly). He has been a featured artist at such prestigious folk clubs as the Tin Angel (Philadelphia), The Living Room (NYC), The Postcrypt Coffeehouse (NYC), Club Passim (Boston), Uncommon Ground (Chicago), and the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival; he has toured the US on both coasts and regularly performs in the UK and Ireland. The Moonshiner's Atlas is a collection of original and traditional songs, fleshed out and highlighted by dynamic interpretations of contemporary artists such as Mary Chapin Carpenter, The Dillards, Gillian Welch, and as mentioned earlier, Richard Thompson.

Given his versatility with the instrument it comes as no surprise that he's shared stages with everyone from Canadian folk-pop bands Great Big Sea and Moxy Fruvous to English folk chanteuse Eddi Reader to The Jazz Mandolin Project and even the legendary proto-punk icon Graham Parker (opening for his book tour no less). When not performing solo, he can often be found performing with his wife Christie Burns: a noted Hammer Dulcimer player who was also the founder of the Cork Dulcimer Festival in Cork City, Ireland.

Butch and Christie currently live in Chattanooga, TN. Butch does some work regularly for Dulcimer Players News. Butch and Christie also perform regularly with Dan Landrum. This is the first Dulci-More Festival for Butch.

Bill Schilling

Bill Schilling is a high-energy folk-style singer and multi-instrumentalist who believes that this type of music should be inclusive. He is the founder and leader of Dulci-More and the Dulci-More Festival and a member of many other groups, which share or support the music. At Dulci-More Festivals, he has performed solo and as Bill Schilling with Carol Ellis; Bill Schilling, Linda Sigismondi, and Marge Diamond; Bill Schilling & Folks; Threes Co.; Whistler's Lane; and presented his Schilling's Slides, Songs, & Stories program. Bill has put together the music that Dulci-More uses and has it available in several volumes and formats: Dulci-More Public Domain Songbooks -- Volumes 1, 2, 3, Christmas Volume (all with numbers for lap dulcimer melody strings as well as music, chords, and lyrics), Autoharp Volume (with melody chord numbers in place of the dulcimer numbers), General Volume (with DAA Numbers) which is the full size version of the four smaller volumes plus much more material, Lyrics with Chords for those who prefer not to have the written music, but want to play along, and Lyrics Only for those who just want to sing along. The full size version is over 300 pages with over 300 songs. Bill has released a CD, Songs from Canal Days, with Linda Sigismondi and continues to threaten to release more recordings upon the world. Since 2005 with Dulci-More members Marcy and Dale Tudor, he has been the Music Coordinator and a regular instructor for Folk Music at Weatherbury Farm, the Tudor’s award winning farm vacation bed and breakfast in Avella, PA. Bill has also been an instructor at John C. Campbell Folk School.

Dulci-More

Dulci-More: Folk & Traditional Musicians is a club that started in January 1993, at the First United Methodist Church of Salem. The purposes of the club are to have fun with folk-style music and to share that music with others. The club meets at 7:00 pm on the first Tuesday and Third Tuesday (note: it was the third Wednesday until January, 2000) of each month just off the sanctuary in the Unity Classroom of the First United Methodist Church of Salem, 244 South Broadway, Salem, OH 44460. All levels of acoustic instrumentalists and singers are always welcome at the meetings to jam, to learn, to listen, or to perform. Call ahead if you are coming from far away since performances or special meetings may be scheduled a few times a year on regular meeting nights.

Mountain Marge Diamond

Marge Diamond began playing Mountain Dulcimer in the mid eighties with virtually no music background but tons of enthusiasm. Through attending Dulcimer workshops and getting in touch with the playing styles of established dulcimer players from all over the country, she found the greatest tool for making friends and having a great time. That is what she teaches others to do. Her early efforts emphasized the playing of fiddle tunes and taking part in a square dance band, The Bentwood Rockers. She then moved on to playing songs that required a little more arranging. Currently Marge plays with The Oberlin Dulcimer Group and Dulci-More. Marge has performed and taught Dulcimer workshops since 1987. She has been on hand teaching and performing at all of the Dulci-More festivals, at the past fourrteen Fort New Salem Festivals, at several of the Kent State Folk Festivals and has been on hand for some of the COFF festivals. Since retirement in 2003 Marge has been pursuing her love of making art. With her business, Winsome Expressions, she makes airbrushed music themed shirts, "Ultimate Totes", and other items for sale. Marge has one recording, Beyond Cabbage. which is now available on CD.

Guy George

Guy George is a rhythmic, melodic hammered dulcimer player with a definite jazz influence to his playing style. He also plays saxophones, flute, whistle, steel drum, and keyboard. His wife, Sharrie, performs and records with him on the guitar. Their CD is Dream Castle. Guy also is included on Maddie MacNeil's CD, As Time Goes By. Guy and Sharrie joined us from their home in Concord, Ohio for Dulci-More Festival 7. Demetrius Steinmetz performed along with Guy and Sharrie at Dulci-More Festival 8. At Dulci-More Festival 10, we had Guy George with Tull Glazener. Since then, Guy and Tull have performed together at several festivals. Guy and Sharrie along with Sue Rust joined us for Dulci-More Festival 11, Guy and Sharrie were back for Dulci-More Festival 12, and Guy returned for Dulci-More Festival 13.

Janet Harriman

Janet Harriman is a Dulci-More member who moved from Alliance, OH to North Chili, NY in 2006. On her own as a Dulci-More member and as a member of Humours ’n Hammers, she has been presenting hammered dulcimer workshops at Dulci-More Festivals for several years. Beyond the hammered dulcimer, she has also regularly played flute with Dulci-More and with Humours ’n Hammers.

Susie Large

Susie Large is from Marengo, Ohio. At Dulci-More Festivals, she has been a regular open stage performer and guest artist at evening concerts (with Mark and Roger Wade and with Guy George) for several years. She plays six and twelve string guitars and may play others and sings. Her favorites are the old country songs, but she also enjoys many other styles. She will again be doing workshops and a mini-concert as she did at Dulci-More Festivals 9-11.

Gary & Toni Sager

Gary & Toni Sager are from Waverly, Ohio. They performed and did workshops for us for their first time at Dulci-More Festival 12 & 13, as well as vending with Prussia Valley Dulcimers Acoustic Music Shop and are back again to do all of those things for Dulci-More Festival 14. Gary became interested in the Mountain Dulcimer in 1991 after seeing David Schnaufer's "Fischer's Hornpipe" video on CMT. He built a dulcimer in late 1991, then began building seriously in 1992 and has been building and playing since that time. Gary has taught playing workshops at Fort New Salem Dulcimer Festival, Dulcimer Doin's in Dayton, Ohio, Buckeye Dulcimer Festival in Ashley, Ohio, The Great River Road Dulcimer Festival in Grafton, IL, Yellowbanks Dulcimer Festival in Owensboro, KY, Chestnut Ridge Dulcimer Festival in Greensburg, PA and several other local festivals. Gary and Toni have done occasional performances at some of these festivals. Gary can be heard on Doug Felt's "A Little of This & A Little of That" CD.

Toni has been playing the autoharp for about seven years, after getting an Oscar Schmidt as a Christmas present. She had seen a lady playing one at the Fraley Mountain Music Festival at Carter Caves State Resort in Ky. and fell in love with the instrument. Toni mostly plays chord style as she plays along with husband Gary, who plays the mountain dulcimer. She has taught beginner workshops at several regional festivals. She really enjoys getting folks started on the autoharp. Toni and Gary have done occasional performances at several dulcimer festivals. Their recently released recording of instrumentals, Rats in the Fence Corner, features them with appearances by Doug Felt and Stephen Seifert.

Linda Sigismondi

Linda Sigismondi is the leader of the Banks of the Ohio Dulcimer Club in Gallipolis and director of the Fort New Salem Dulcimer Festival. She has five mountain dulcimer books: Appalachian Ballads & Songs, Songs from Canal Days, Christmas Songs, Celtic Tunes, and Old Time and Fiddle Tunes. Linda has released a recording, Songs from Canal Days, with Bill Schilling and has companion recordings for her other books. She also sings, plays guitar, Native American flute, Kratz zither, and MacArthur harp, and writes songs. Linda has taught workshops and performed at many folk music festivals in West Virginia, Ohio, and New York. Linda has played at Fort New Salem, West Virginia, for the Harvest and Christmas Festivals for many years. She is a Dulci-More member, attending a few activities a year even though she lives in Gallipolis. She has won many competitions at Roscoe Village Dulcimer Days and other competitions. Linda has been part of all of our Dulci-More Festivals.

Smokin Fez Monkeys

The Smokin Fez Monkeys is a modern jug band that puts the fun back into music again. They play a wacky mixture of songs and tunes from several decades ago, mixed in with a number of snappy original ones written by a few of the band members. There are more than a few surprises along the way. It’s a sort of a ragtime-cartoon-Vaudeville-circus-hobo-gypsy-jazz thing. The band consists of Tim Wallace (vocals, banjo-guitar, jugs, etc.), Mark Sherepita (vocals, guitar, harmonica, jugs, etc.), Holly Overton (vocals, violin), Bill Drake (jingle stick and percussion), and Jim Stone (acoustic bass). If you haven't guessed from the name, these guys know how to entertain a crowd! They were with us last year for Dulci-More Festival 13. They come from around the northeast Ohio area.

Stringed Fantasy

Stringed Fantasy returns from the Canton-Massillon-Ravenna and beyond area. They sing; and Sue Wheeler plays hammered dulcimer, harp, and autoharp; Rosalind Wilson plays 6 and 12 string guitars and hammered dulcimer; Mary Thompson plays autoharp, whistles, flute, fife, harp, and more; Rod Thompson plays autoharp and washtub bass; Alma Houston plays percussion. All are Dulci-More members and some are members of the Canton Folk Song Society. Some are also members of Strings ’n Lace specializing more in classical music than folk music. Sue and Roz started giving workshops at Dulci-More Festival 2, and Stringed Fantasy has been with us for Dulci-More Festivals 3-11. Some members of the group are on sabbatical, but might be present for some things. Gene Johnson plays guitar; Connie Johnson plays mountain dulcimer, mandolin, Irish banjo, and octave mandolin; Donna Johnston plays hammered dulcimer and bass; Christina Kambrick plays mountain dulcimer, and accordion; and Steve Wheeler plays autoharp and percussion.

Sutch Sounds

Adam Sutch and Sutch Sounds will return this year from Daisytown PA. Adam is 17 years old and has been playing, performing, competing, and teaching the hammered dulcimer now since the age of 11. Adam is a junior at the California Area High School where he is a member of the Leo club, SADD, on the envirothon team, in marching band where he plays the trumpet, a member of the National Honor Society, on the High School Tennis Team. He has performed in eight musicals at the high school and also in the Disney’s High School Musical in Flatwoods Productions. Through all of this, he still maintains high honor status. In addition to his high school activities, Adam is the current Mid-eastern Regional Hammered Dulcimer Champion. His group Sutch Sounds consists of his brother, Aaron, age 14 on the marimbula, his brother, Austin, age 9 on the bodhran, his grandparents, Ron & Darlene Howes, on guitar and his mother Michelle on back up hammered dulcimer and rhythm instruments. Their repertoire includes a wide variety of music including Irish, Celtic, traditional tunes, and much more. You can see Adam’s upcoming events or learn more about him at http://adamsutch.tripod.com.

The shop is located at 122 North Market Street, Waverly, OH 45690; 740-941-1271.

He mixes woods in visually stimulating patterns on some of his dulcimers to give them a unique look. He has taken his dulcimers to several festivals. This is Paul’s first time at Dulci-More Festival.

Dulci-More Festival for Schools

Thanks to generous contributions from Folknet, Dulci-More, and United Local Elementary School, we will continue a new program for the sixth time this year in 2008. Dulci-More will be able to take some of its performers out to local schools in order to give performances. Each of the expected school performances will feature one or more of the artists performing at Dulci-More Festival 14. All students attending may receive a flyer for the festival.

Radio Promotion

Special thanks go to Tom Ball and Jim Stone of the Just Plain Folk radio show produced by the Mountain Rose Concert Series on WAPS-FM 91.3 the Summit in Akron for the support they have shown us by having Bill Schilling and other guests on the show to help promote Dulci-More Festival 6, 7, 8, 9, 10,and 11 as well as special Dulci-More events. For Dulci-More Festival 12, Bill will be back again with more live and recorded music from festival artists. The weekly show, which features recorded music, the Mountain Rose report, and live music from guests from the local area and beyond, airs 8:00-10:00 PM on Tuesday Evenings. A webcast may be heard in real time at www.wapsfm.com. Starting with Dulci-More Festival 9, Just Plain Folk recorded a live interview for later broadcast as one of the workshops at the festival. For Dulci-More Festival 10 they did two different workshop interviews featuring Ed Trickett on one while Lesley Miller and Ray Brooks were on the other. We expect to continue this relationship for Dulci-More Festival 14 with two more workshop interviews.

Special thanks also go to Jim Blum who hosts folk programming weekend evenings from 8:00 or 9:00 PM to Midnight or 1:00 AM on WKSU-FM 89.7 in Kent for his regular announcements about Dulci-More Festivals over all the years of the festival and special Dulci-More events. The programs (along with performances from Kent State Folk Festivals) are kept in archives at www.wksu.org so that folks anywhere can enjoy them any time, and they can also be heard in real time by people around the world with an internet connection. Jim Blum is also working with Folk Alley, with 24 hour a day internet folk music programming. There is a link to it from the WKSU-FM website.

These people and others around northeast Ohio (and others around the country and the world) do a great service to folk music by letting people hear new and vintage recordings as well as live music over the air. Tom, Jim, and Jim also are actively involved in promoting and producing live performances by many artists at concerts and festivals. Beyond that, they also give calendar listings over the air and in other formats telling where live folk music is happening (like at Dulci-More Festivals) to inform and remind the public of how great it is to hear this music live. Their efforts help to keep folk music very much alive in Northeast Ohio. We appreciate their efforts.

Special Needs

The activities listed here show the purposes for the festival, as with the club, are for people to jam (from the workshops to campfires, song circles, jams, and gospel sing), to learn (workshops), to listen (concerts and mini-concerts), and to perform (open stages of two types). We run a children's workshop area for kids of all ages during all workshop clusters.

This is our eleventh year at beautiful and historic BSA Camp McKinley. The great indoor and covered facilities have let us enjoy all scheduled events despite continuous and heavy rain during a day of Festival 3 and other questionable weather.

Workshops at the festival are run in beginner, advanced beginner, intermediate, advanced, and general levels for many song styles and many instruments. Some instruments are available for loan so that anyone can get in on the fun and learning.

Pre-registered group discounts are available. Inquire about them before the festival.

Children are always welcome with responsible adults.

On-site Camping is primitive, meaning that there are no hook-ups available. Bunk spaces in Zaplata Cabin at camping rates are available until all are taken (no facilities in cabin, but an outhouse is close). Rest rooms and showers are available at the camp.

Campers wanting hook-ups should make their own reservations at another campsite.

The Number for Lock 30 Campground outside Lisbon is 330-424-9197.

Non-campers may want to make reservations at a local motel.

In Lisbon are: Hannah Klaire House, Country Inn (was Capehart) at 330-424-3413, Frola at 330-424-3590, Days Inn of Lisbon (Was Lisbon Inn) at 330-420-0111 or 800-329-7466 (1-800-DAYSINN), and Trail’s End at 330-424-7593.

In Salem is: Timberlanes at 330-337-9901.
